Hydrocarbon Extraction
How does it work?
Hydrocarbon extraction involves immersing prepared botanical material in a non-polar hydrocarbon solvent like butane or propane (BHO / PHO). The solvent dissolves the volatile aromatic compounds along with waxes and other lipophilic substances from the plant tissue at very cold conditions to maintain terpene retention.
After sufficient contact time, the mixture is filtered to remove plant solids and the solvent is carefully evaporated under vacuum in a closed-loop system, leaving a waxy concentrate that can be further processed into live resin, diamonds and sauce, badder, budder, or distillate depending on post-processing steps.
